Why did the translators Of the KJV 1611?
Now, you know you are being here, 'cause it's not wrong for children to call their earthly fathers 'Father'. Taken in context, Jesus was referring to religious leaders wanting titles and to be revered amongst men, being looked up to in awe. The early Church Fathers did not get that collective title until long after they had died! It was a way of identifying those Christian men who had trail-blazed in the early days of the Church - who had thrashed out doctrine and who had proved themselves to be sound in the faith. So that rules out the point Jesus was making, about men wishing to be considered spiritually superior to others whilst they were alive.
