How can you gain confidence ?

My aunt is for me a great example of a housewife with a good life. She had one child, and while he was young she devoted herself to raising him, so by the time he was older and spending more time away from her it would have been difficult for her to return to the world of work, so she found more "housewifey" things to do that were of interest to her, instead of ending up some gossiping, fashionless yet fashion obsessed housewife.
