Question for Indians: Are Indian parents selfish?

Do Indian parents only have children for selfish purposes? By that I mean are they only having kids so they have someone to take care of them later. I've noticed that when Indian children go against their parents wishes and jeopardize the chance of the child being able to take care of the adult in later years they are quick to disown their son/daughter. If they really cared about their children, then they would accept them regardless of what their occupation was. Some claim Indian parents claim to be so controlling for the sake of their children's happiness, but hasn't anyone noticed that having their son/daughter marry a well to do person they don't love in an arranged marriage is less about their child's well being and more about their well-being in later years?
