Fire belly newt question?

ok i just got a fire belly newt andi don't know if it is eating i went out and got some Ghost shrimp to but it in with it to see if it will eat them they are hard to find so i don't know if he is and i got some shrimp pelts bc that is what the girl at the pet store told me that they like to eat i have fish in with it and they it the shrimp pelts to so i really don't know if he eats that or not how can i tell and make sure that he is eating right and will he eat the ghost shrimp or do i need to get something else think u for helping
